The Society of New Hope is a social welfare organization founded by a dedicated realtor and property manager with a decade of experience in the real estate and affordable housing sectors. Having worked for nonprofit organizations in the affordable housing field, she recognized the urgent need for assistance to prevent homelessness and cover unexpected expenses. Driven by her passion for making a meaningful impact, she created this organization with a purposeful mission.
Our Vision
Our vision is to assist in eradicating homelessness in New Jersey by reducing the housing shortage with the development of safe, sustainable, yet affordable housing. Our goal is to ensure that housing developments are built sustainably to reduce the carbon footprint, boost energy efficiency and minimize construction costs using green building construction standards with the use of recycled and sustainable materials, energy efficient windows and doors, low-VOC and non-toxic materials, and rainwater harvesting systems. We envision a world where everyone has access to safe, clean, and affordable housing, creating a community of empowered individuals thriving in stability and security.
Meet Our Founder & CEO

Tonja Nelums, Founder & CEO
The Society of New Hope's founder & CEO is an experienced realtor & property manager with an excellent reputation in facilitating real estate transactions and managing a residential multi-family portfolio of 200 units allocated over five LIHTC, PSH & Hud Section 8 funded properties. She is a results driven professional with experience promoting a customer first culture, maintaining service level standards and identifying ongoing value-creating opportunities through market knowledge and cross functional coordination. A product of a single teenaged mother, forced into homelessness, Tonja has a dignified purpose and mission which guides her work. With that in mind, she strives to offer a luxury 50 unit apartment building, developed sustainably for single homeless mothers.
