Your purchases and donations will provide financial assistance to pay rent arrears, security deposits, and vouchers for unexpected expenses related to flood damage, power outages, and broken appliances. Donations will also fund the organization's vision initiative to create sustainable, safe and affordable housing for the underserved. In Essex County, NJ, the homelessness crisis is severe, with approximately " 1,595 people experiencing homelessness in Essex County. Of that total, 186 are considered chronically homeless and 126 were unsheltered on the night of the count. Newark, NJ has the highest number of homeless people with 1,361 (Valetovic Amanda, 2023)." The rising cost of living and limited availability of affordable housing exacerbate this issue.
